GameTimePA names 2019-20 York-Adams high school wrestling all-stars (2024)

Here are the 2019-20GameTimePA YAIAA wrestling all-stars, as determined by staff.

Wrestler of the Year

Dylan Reinert, Gettysburg, sr.

Talk about a workhorse. Reinert wrestled 53 matches from Dec. 12 to March 7 and won 50 of them. His three losses came in a prestigious national tournament early in the season, the team state tournament and the PIAA Class 3A semifinals. Other than that, Reinert was unstoppable. But he didn't just go 50-3. The 170-pound senior dominated opponents on a regular basis. He picked up bonus points in 43 of his victories— 29 by pin. He won his fourth straight sectional title and then blew through the District 3 Class 3A tournament with two pins and a tech fall before accepting an injury forfeit in the title match. He picked up a tech fall and a major victory in the first two matches of the state tournament before losing 8-2 to eventual state champ Lenny Pinto in the semifinals. He bounced back with two more victories that same day— not an easy task considering the emotions that come with a loss on that stage— to claim third place at 170 pounds. He won the second-highest medal of any YAIAA competitor this spring and the highest of any competitor in Class 3A. The final victory of his career was a 5-1 win over Trey Kibe, a 2019 state champion who was previously committed to Penn State.

Coach of the Year:Chris Haines, Gettysburg

GameTimePA names 2019-20 York-Adams high school wrestling all-stars (18)

When Haines returned to his alma mater as a coach 10 years ago, the Warriors had just nine wrestlers in the program. Gettysburg had fallen off after winning the District 3 Class 3A title in 1999— the year after Haines graduated. Fast forward to 2020, and the Warriors captured their second District 3 team title with a victory over Dallastown. The Warriors didn't lose a dual meet until the state tournament. They also won YAIAA Division I in dominant fashion, winning their six divisional matches by an average of 44 points. That dominance was even more impressive considering Gettysburg had the division's smallest enrollment numbers and was in its second year competing in the league's top division. Haines also helped Sainato and Reinert capture District 3 crowns while the latter took third at states. Maybe most importantly, Gettysburg had 32 wrestlers on its varsity roster this season— more than three times the amount when he took over the program. He was also named District 3 Coach of the Year.
